Merry Minstrels is a unique extra-curricular musical group that provides performance and outreach opportunities for students. Students learn traditional English Morris Dances, which are rich in symbolism and performed with garlands, scarves, sticks, swords and the Maypole. Colorful costumes and authentic recorder music enhance the dancing.
Over the last 20 years, the Merry Minstrels have conducted educational performances at other schools, entertained residents of nursing homes, hospitals and shelters and participated in ethnic festivals. They have performed at the Cathedral of St. Paul, rang bells for the Red Kettle Campaign at the Mall of America and performed in the “Spring Fling” at the Midtown Global Market. Hat Day, Friendship Day, St. Patrick’s Day and May Day are regular events that the Minstrels celebrate. Every school year brings new opportunities for performance.
